Performer : Missy Malone

August 30th, 2010

Only a week to go until Dr Sketchy Liverpool and just time to find out all about Missy Malone.

Missy Malone is a heady cocktail of 1950’s bombshell and classic rock chick. An accomplished and sought-after performer on the UK burlesque scene who has performed internationally and has graced the cover of several publications and campaigns.

As an already established Actress and Model she also commands an impressive list of skills and talents ranging from traditional fan dance to striptease and is trained in both static trapeze and stilt walking. With her stunning trademark look and jaw dropping routines it is but a matter of time before this femme fatal make a lasting impression on the world stage! Acting (12 years exp), modelling (8 years exp), (Burlesque 6 Years exp)

Missy has shared the bill with some of burlesque’s top names including Kitten De Ville, Dirty Martini, Kitten on the Keys, Mimi Le Meaux and Immodesty Blaize. Missy appears regularly in a variety of extravaganzas including The Candy Box in Birmingham, Torture Garden Events in London and in festivals such as the “Summer Jamboree” Italy and clubs in Milan, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Rome, Helsinki, Jersey and Paris.

Missy toured extensively with “The Damned” as part of their “Twisted Cabaret” tour 2007 and is a regular on the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Circuit every year. Missy also danced in a Bollywood feature film, which was filmed in Mumbai, India in Oct 2008.

Missy co-produced “The Missy Malone & Friends Burlesque Revue” at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. The four shows in Feb 2010 were a sell out success and the show is returning at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 28th Aug 2010 and for a Halloween Spectacular on 28th/29th Oct 2010 at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.

Performer : Parma Violet

August 24th, 2010

Parma Violet AKA Saffron Shearer-Gare began her foray into performance at the tender age of 13 when she first got up to tap dance as Columbia at a screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in her home town of Glasgow. A pot of pink hair dye, a lot of sequins and some twenty years later, she discovered she had been doing Burlesque all those years without knowing it.

After an inspiring trip to TEASEORAMA in San Francisco in 2002, she and her husband Al Palooka decided Blighty needed some more Burly action, there then only being four clubs in the UK. Together they started The Candy Box Burlesque Club in Birmingham in 2006 with house gogo troupe The Candied Heels and the 13 piece Palookaville! Burlesque Orchestra with singer Imelda May. The rest is history. Despite now juggling being a mum to Tallulah Violet, working at the B’ham Hippodrome theatre and making costumes and wedding dresses, Saff still has time for Burly.

Her motto is ” Don’t Dream it, Be it” closely followed by ” Tits and Teeth, everyone!”

Performer : Velma Von BonBon

August 16th, 2010

The first of our performers to be profiled is a rising star and local girl made good, or perhaps “local bad girl made good ”
First staggering bambi-legged and doe eyed onto the burlesque circuit in late 2009, it was immediately obvious Velma Von Bon Bon was destined for the top. Velma’s comedic style is a cheeky bottom flash at the stoics of society and her inventive antics have lit up stages across the northwest. She was awarded winner of the prestigious Tournament of Tease July heat, cementing her growing reputation while  proving what we’ve known for a while: that Velma brings something new and exciting to the burlesque world.

No wonder then that she has been shaking her booty in exotic locations as diverse as Leeds and Huddersfield!

If this pint sized pocket rocket can’t put I’ll smile on your face she’ll eat your hat!
When not burlesquing, Velma can be found fiddling on her purple fiddle with hottest all girl jazz band in town, the “Flamin’ Mamies”.
